Un film unico nella storia del cinema, una riflessione sofferta sul rapporto tra cinema e vita, in versione restaurata in 4K
L'agonia del grande regista americano Nicholas Ray (1911-1979) ammalato terminale di cancro, filmata dal giovane amico Wim Wenders che lo va a trovare nella sua casa di Spring Street a New York, l'idea di fare insieme un film. Una conferenza al Vassar College con la proiezione de "Il temerario", i ritocchi al montaggio di un film incompiuto "We Can't Go Home Again", infine il funerale del regista sul fiume Hudson, a bordo di una giunca cinese.Un film unico nella storia del cinema, una delle riflessioni più crude e insieme più dolci e sofferte del rapporto cinema-vita, condotte a partire da una dolorosa esperienza personale.
Il film è stato girato nelle ultime settimane della vita di Nicholas Ray, che è morto di cancro il 7 Agosto 1979. Ha raccontato Wim Wenders: "Nick era malato terminale, ma voleva morire lavorando. Il film fatto insieme era uno sforzo di contrastare il cancro con qualcosa, qualche forma di cura terminale che è anche risultata un film. tutti noi che abbiamo fatto questo ultimo viaggio insieme a Nick lo avremmo fatto anche senza filmarlo con una telecamera."
